Daydreams for my In Dreams collection

After a near ten year hiatus, I’ve recently returned to my art practice through a seasoned lens, bringing with me to the easel design, marketing, and editorial experience. From the earliest concept throughout completion, I try to imagine where my art may end up and what the composition, palette, texture, and tone might contribute to that space.

Here are a few dream scenarios for my “In Dreams” series, inspired by some of my favorite design darlings…

1 — In Dreams, No. 1 / Sitting Room by Jake Arnold

2 — In Dreams, No. V / Dining Room by Amber Lewis

3 — In Dreams, No. IX / Ensuite Sitting Area by Drew Michael Scott

4 — In Dreams, No. IV / Children’s Bedroom by Allison Wilson

5 — In Dreams, No. VIII / Foyer by Leanne Ford

6 — In Dreams, No. II / Living Room by Studio Guild

7 — In Dreams, No. XII / Bedroom by West of Main

8 — In Dreams, No. VI / Dining Room by Sarah Sherman Samuel

9 — In Dreams, No. III / Bedroom by Lauren Liess

About the Series: In Dreams, July 2024

In contrast to my past work heavily rooted in realism, I’ve allowed myself more room to play. Challenging perfectionism through loose, gestural marks made with a slightly unpredictable medium that in harmony with the wood grain, begin to lead the way.

Throughout this process, my eyes would unintentionally lose focus and find rest, the composition in front of me momentarily blurred despite my hand still in motion. Some of my favorite details from this series are products of those meditative moments — a true flow state, a silent reverie.

Inspired by seemingly mundane views along beloved trails, these pieces are mental landscapes of my cathartic return to self and the restoration of abandoned dreams. Anxiety-driven marks that, together, draft a vision of calm. A reminder that some of life’s most beautiful discoveries are made through moments of discomfort and difficulty. A reminder to embrace the unknown.
